Fun At Borough Market
Markets often remind me of museums.
Wait, let me explain!
Various countries uniting to display their pieces of art for the world to see.
And in this case, the art being food. (Heck, food is somewhat of an art form).
Now for the number of years that I've lived in London, I have never visited the eminent Borough Market. This apparently means I have committed a dreadful sin.
As I need blessings from the food God's, I grabbed my favourite boots, my favourite blazer, my favourite Abi and promptly darted off to Southwark to see what all the fuss was about. Am I forgiven Cheesus?
But lo and behold, a silver lining appeared and I made a new friend! Meet Geoffrey.
Running away with him seemed more and more enticing. Nevertheless, we left the pup and were immediately surrounded by the sound of bellowing traders. From Paella to Ostrich burgers to Wheatgrass shots you really can find all the desires of your heart! (or in this case your stomach).
It was only right to take a mini tour of the market before deciding on what to peck at first.
^ Sadly this can't be pecked on.
Now you don't!
Once I finished acting like a school child we both agreed that the only plausible thing to do would be to visit the Furness Fish & Game stall.
I settled for the venison burger with Gouda cheese, bacon jam, black pepper and lettuce. Abi decided on the Gouda cheese and lettuce filling.
And a glass of Prosecco to wash it down. Delizioso!
After one burger we were stuffed. Time to walk off those calories!
The strolling continued and before we knew it we were at my favourite museum to view the evening exhibition.
But more on that here.
If you've never been to Borough Market I'd recommend attending the full market which is open from Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm, excluding Friday when it's open till 6pm. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was a bit busy but not unbearable. Make sure to try the Furness burger while you're there!
Ooh I want that chocolate spread. I haven't been to Borough Market for more years than I care to think - it's sadly a bit far from Cornwall.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Cornwall before but once I graduate it's on my list of places to visit!
DeleteI love markets like these! Have never been to Borough Market as it's a bit far from where I am. I love the look at that Chocolate spread, it must be special if it's better than Nutella!
ReplyDeleteLaura x x x
I'm a bit sceptical. I love Nutella so much that I don't mind if I break out from it even though I have a nut allergy (I am insane) so I must go back and review that! xx

ReplyDeletei absolutely LOVE Borough Street Market!! You can eat a full three course meal just by wandering around and tasting all of the samples!! I'm not from London but whenever I'm visiting I can't help but stop by for a pint of home-made cider and all the amazing food! Also, handy tip for all the young men and women out there: this is just about the best date venue ever, trust me, it works an absolute charm!!
ReplyDeleteThat's literally what I did. It's not my fault they shove samples in your face! I haven't tried the home-made cider yet! I must go back for that. If I was taken on a date there I'd be afraid my date would think I'm some food monster Hahahaha! xx
